Our urban soils look much different than that of the forest floor. The forest floor should be our model when approaching tree vigor in relation to soils. Forest soils are rich in and well aerated, mulched, moist, cool and loaded with beneficial organisms. That is a tough one to reproduce in our compacted, nutrient lacking clay soils in the Midwest. The important soil conditioning micro organisms can not survive in our conditions.
What we do?
How do we take a tree or a shrub that is growing in a tough environment (bad soil) and get it to flourish and add many years of enjoyment to our lives?
Fertilization and Aeration comes first.
Fertilization can be described as the addition of necessary nutrients and elements to the soil structure to improve plant health and appearance. Our specialty mixes will produce excellent root growth and mass along with improvement in color, leaf size, and overall health. You can often tell the condition of the roots by looking at the crown on top of a tree or shrub.
Our timely fertilizer and aeration applications in the Spring and Fall are designed to enhance the plants natural processes of development at the correct time of the year.
